Double Your Impact: Support Information Science Students

The Department of Information Science is one of the fastest-growing programs at CU Boulder. Our students study how people interact with data, technology, and information systems. They graduate ready to shape how communities and industries make sense of an increasingly complex world. But as a young department, we don't yet have the alumni base or fundraising infrastructure that more established programs rely on. That means talented students sometimes miss opportunities not because of ability, but because of funding.

Your gift to this campaign directly supports students: micro-scholarships for high-achieving undergraduates facing financial hardship, funding for senior capstone teams to build real prototypes and travel to coordinate with partner organizations, travel awards so students can present their research at national conferences, and support for bringing visiting speakers to campus to interact with students. These opportunities can shape a student's trajectory and help them launch their careers.

Where your gift goes

Your donation goes directly to student-facing opportunities in the Department of Information Science. Here's what that looks like in practice:

Senior Capstone Project Support. Our senior capstone is where undergraduate students bring together everything they've learned by designing and building real projects, often in partnership with outside organizations. Funding helps capstone teams purchase materials, develop prototypes, travel for partner coordination, and bring their ideas to life.

Micro-Scholarships for Undergraduates. Small amounts of money can make a disproportionate difference. Micro-scholarships of $100โ€“$250 provide targeted support to high-achieving undergraduates facing financial difficulties that threaten their ability to stay focused on their studies.

Student Travel Awards. When students present their research at conferences and workshops, they build professional networks, get feedback from experts in their field, and develop confidence as scholars. Travel funding removes a significant barrier, especially for students who couldn't otherwise afford registration, flights, or lodging.

Speaker Series & Events. Bringing visiting scholars and practitioners to campus enriches the intellectual life of the department. Funding supports travel costs for out-of-state speakers who present to and interact directly with students. These conversations can shape how students think about their work and their futures.

Every dollar matched through June 30.

Through a generous matching campaign from the College of Communication, Media, Design, and Information (CMDI), every gift is matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $5,000. If we reach our goal, we unlock $10,000 in combined funding for students. Here's what that looks like:

  • A $50 gift becomes $100 — this may cover a micro-scholarship for an undergraduate in need
  • A $100 gift becomes $200 — covering materials such as those needed for a capstone team's prototype
  • A $250 gift becomes $500 — this could sponsor travel for a student presenting research
  • A $500 gift becomes $1000 — opportunities such as bringing out-of-state speakers to present and interact with students

The match ends June 30, so we hope you'll consider giving now to make your gift go as far as possible. Any amount makes a difference, and we greatly appreciate your help spreading the word by sharing this campaign. Thank you for supporting Information Science students at CU Boulder. Give by June 30 to double your impact.
