With developments in computing increasingly shaping all parts of our world, computer science is a vital field of study and one of the campus’ largest fields of undergraduate and graduate study. Our charge is to produce computer scientists who will help tackle society’s complex challenges of today and tomorrow and do so responsibly to ensure technology develops in ways that ethically benefit society.
The role of computing continues to expand in all disciplines and industries. Our interdisciplinary efforts collaborate across boundaries and departments, encouraging our students to utilize their skills in a wide variety of applications and fields, ranging from the sciences and engineering to the arts, humanities, social sciences, and business. This year, we were excited to see that U.S. News & World Report ranked our Department of Computer Science at No. 14 in the Best Undergraduate Computer Science rankings of public institution peers, to go along with our No. 20 ranking in the Best Graduate Computer Science programs.
