For 117 years, the Golden Buffalo Marching Band (GBMB) has enriched the lives of the community. Guided by Tradition, Heartbeat, Spirit, and Pride, the GBMG cultivates a community of Buffs committed to dynamic performances, service, and leadership.
This season, the GBMB collaborated with the Evergreen High School Marching Band following a tragic school shooting. On October 11, 2025, approximately sixty Evergreen students joined the GBMB for a halftime performance at the CU Buffs football game, coming together to heal through music.
The GBMB is more than a band; it is a home where students from every major grow as musicians, leaders, and friends. As it continues to expand, additional funding ensures every musician can fully participate, pursue their passion, and contribute without financial barriers.
In the wake of September’s tragedy, Evergreen High School band students found an unexpected source of healing through a joint halftime performance with the CU Boulder Golden Buffalo Marching Band. For Evergreen students, the invitation felt like exactly what they needed, interviewed by 9News.
Senior student from Evergreen, Maya Hyslop, shared how the experience helped their community reconnect: “It’s healing in the way that it just brings everyone together… playing together is one of the most amazing things you can do."
CU students felt that same unity. Jack Parry, an Evergreen graduate now in CU’s band, said, “Band kids are kinda all the same… we are there to support each other."
For both schools, the Marching Band became more than music, it was a powerful reminder that community, compassion and shared artistry can light the path forward.
