Since its inception, the Student Fellowship Fund at ICS has empowered nearly 500 graduate students across an extraordinary range of disciplines, including computer science, psychology and neuroscience, linguistics, education, philosophy, information science, integrative physiology, speech, language, and hearing science, and even music, to pursue bold, interdisciplinary research in cognitive science. These fellowships provide critical support that allows students to launch innovative pilot studies and share their findings on national and international stages, expanding the visibility of ICS research and strengthening CU Boulder’s reputation as a leader in the field. Recent pilot projects supported include groundbreaking work examining how cannabidiol (CBD) interacts with neural systems involved in depression, as well as cutting-edge applications of machine learning to identify brain states underlying rumination, worry, and mindfulness. Together, these investments are shaping the next generation of scholars and accelerating discoveries at the frontiers of brain, behavior, and technology, ensuring that ICS continues to drive transformative research with global reach.
